Ever wonder what a Board of Ed member's role in hiring of school personnel is? As the NJ School Board's Association explains, "To ensure the schools have qualified staff, the board is responsible for policies regarding hiring and renewal of personnel. The administration is responsible for the regulations that will go with those policies. The interviewing process...is largely an administrative function and not a board member role...The only person the board will hire...will be a new superintendent."

That last statement is what I am most proud of in my first term as a BOE member. We had the opportunity to hire a new Superintendent in my first year and I believe we hired the best person for the job who has demonstrated his commitment to this district and our students since day one.

You can read more about the role of a BOE member in personnel decisions on the NJSBA website.
