My Board Member Activities 2019-2021

Being a member of a board of education is a volunteer public service position. Through the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA), BOE members have many opportunities for professional development important to their roles. We also have opportunities to serve within the district as liaisons to organizations with which the district works or as members of committees related to district business. Below are the activities I have participated in during my first term on the Pequannock BOE.

  • The 3Rs – Roles, Responsibilities, and Resources for New and Not So New Board Members

  • New Board Member Orientation Weekend - two intensive days of training on the role of board members, governance, budgets and finance, and more. I chose this immersive experience over the shorter, less detailed online version.

  • Governance I

  • SEPAC (Special Education Parents' Advisory Committee) Liaison

  • Special Education Symposium - full day training and workshop

  • Chair, Pequannock BOE Policy Committee

  • Member, Pequannock BOE Curriculum & Instruction Committee

  • NJSBA Workshop, 2019 and 2020 - three days of workshops and training

  • Governance II: Finance

  • Liaison to Morris County School Boards Association - attend monthly meetings of MCSBA for informative presentations, information sharing with other Morris County board members and Superintendents and updates on relevant legislation.

  • Pequannock Township School District QSAC Advisory Team - provide input on the district's QSAC submission and participate in the QSAC site visit

  • Pequannock's 2020 Reopening Planning Team - Operations Committee

  • School-Municipal Cooperation: Responding to COVID-19 - NJSBA webinar

  • Back to Backpacks Webinar Series - four webinars and discussions related to overcoming COVID-19 setbacks:

    • Remediation is Not the Answer: Acceleration is!

    • Addressing Special Education Pandemic Reopening Challenges

    • To Learn a Student Must Feel Valued and Welcomed

    • Adult Collaboration Does Make A Difference in Student Outcomes

  • Governance III: Student Achievement

After completing my third year as a Board member and attending the NJSBA Delegates' Assembly in November, I will qualify to be a Certified Board Member through NJ School Boards. I have learned so much in this journey and would love an opportunity to continue to use what I've learned to serve the district and to grow in my role as a Board member.
